SARAH (SALLIE) FORTNER

FAMILY HISTORY

compiled by Connie Perry Page, 732 Page Garrett Road, Kite, GA

Annie Ruth Fortner Page, 577 Page Garrett Road, Kite, GA

SARAH FORTNER was born 07 May 1800 and died 10 February 1883. She lived in Emanuel County, Georgia, in the 1810 Census. Her property was moved into Johnson County with its formation. She is buried in the Fortner Family Cemetery northwest of Kite, Johnson County, GA. She had three known sons: SWAIN MONTGOMERY FORTNER, JAMES TOL FORTNER, and MITCHEL GRIFFIN FORTNER. A lot of uncertainty surrounds Grannny Sally. To date I have found no record of her marriage or her parents. There must be some connection to the SWAIN family because of the prevalence of the name among her children. Some speculate that STEPHEN SWAIN was the father of her children. Others think that SWAIN was her maiden name making her a sister to STEPEN SWAIN and that her husband died prior to 1810. There are other children as well apparently with a different father: MARTHA A.E. FORTNER and HARDEE FORTNER.

MITCHELL GRIFFIN FORTNER born 04 February 1819 and died 08 July 1887 in Polk County, FL. He is buried in Mt. Olive Cemetery. He served as sherriff in Emanuel County. He married AXIE BEDGOOD.
